Rhodes
Rhodes is perhaps the most famous of the Greek islands and it is situated just to the south west of Turkey and is nestled in the Aegean Sea. Rhodes also holds the accolade of being by far the largest of the Greek islands and the population of 117,000 makes it the most populous as well. One of the immediate things that springs to mind when one mentions Rhodes is the majestic Colossus, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. This statue of the god Helios stood 30 metres tall until it was destroyed in 226 BCE by an earthquake.
Although the Colossus is no longer standing all around on Rhodes one can find evidence of the intriguing and rich history that the island has to offer; the City of Rhodes old town region has recently been declared a World Heritage Site and it is a major tourist destination. The large international airport offers flights to most European locations allowing anyone to reach Rhodes with the minimum of fuss. One of the major attractions of Rhodes is the climate; it feels much more Asian than that of many of the other islands and this is reflected in the geography and flora of the island with large swathes of pine and cypress forests punctuated by rocky mountains.
There are many smaller villages and resorts that are scattered across Rhodes outside of the capital and many of these are charming and delightful to explore at your leisure. Whatever your interests you can be sure of a warm welcome and memories that will last a lifetime from your Rhodes holiday, so why not book from our website today?
