Provence is a beautiful Mediterranean region of France situated in the south eastern reaches of the country next to the border with Italy and a popular destination in which to stay in holiday home rentals. Provence itself is split up into a number of smaller "departements", these are Var, Vaucluse, Bouches-du-Rhône, Alpes-de-Haute-Provence and Alpes-Maritimes. Holiday home rentals in the region range from small and homely to vast and luxurious and it is easy to understand why so many people choose to spend their holidays in area with their friends and family.

Provence actually takes its name from the Roman word for province and is so named because it was actually the first Roman province outside of Italy, and holiday home rentals have been popular in the region even since ancient times! The rivers of the region have traditionally been the site of a number of holiday home rentals and have played a major part in shaping the region throughout history. The Rhone River sits on the western region of Provence and is the site of a number of holiday home rentals. It is one of the most important rivers in France, serving as an important means of communications and transport for hundreds of years. There are also a large number of Provence holiday home rentals around the Durance River, a smaller tributary of the Rhone.

The Verdon River is very popular with tourists, particularly the area round the breathtaking Verdon Gorge, a stunning limestone canyon that runs for over 10 miles and is over 300 metres in depth. The Var River is also a popular place full of Provence holiday home rentals and for many years it actually served as a border seperating France along the Mediterranean. The Maritime Alps are the highest peaks in Provence and they form a natural border with the Italian province of Cuneo, and also serve as a home to the Mercantour National Park, something we certainly recommend seeing if you are staying in holiday homes in the area.

The geography of the area is sublime and plays host to a wide range of activities from skiing across the dramatic slops of the Martime Alps to kayaking through the canyons in the many rivers that criss-cross Provence. Whatever kind of holiday home rentals you are looking for we are confident that within our directory of Provence holiday home rentals you will find something perfect for your needs.
