Description

This small terraced cottage combines a good deal of charm and character with a pleasant and peaceful East Yorkshire coastal village location.

Aldbrough is situated in the vale of Holderness, 12 miles north of the City of Hull, a short drive from the historic town of Beverley, and 7 miles south of Hornsea.  The village of Aldbrough is served by a range of

local shops, an excellent fish & chip shop, 3 public houses serving traditional home cooked food, a sports hall, there is a limited bus service, and for those wishing to take an excursion from the village, there is a private coach operator offering a list of destinations.

The cottage is located just a short walk from all local amenities, to the east of the village church. The church was built mainly in the Norman style with evidence of Saxon architecture around the windows and doors, inside the church can boast the tomb of Sir John de Melsa, a 6’6 warrior of great note, he was Governor of York from 1292-1296.

The village is surrounded by open fields with no shortage of interesting walks, and the cottage is located approximately one mile from the sea, offering a sheltered beach at low tide.  From spring to autumn caravaners visit regularly, and the caravan park social club offers many evenings of entertainment throughout the season.

The cottage is cosy, comfortable and well equipped, and can sleep up to four adults, with a travel cot and high chair provided for an additional young child. One small, well behaved pet may be accommodated by arrangement.  There is strictly no smoking in the cottage itself.

To the rear of the cottage is a pretty; well maintained garden which is safe for children to play with no access to the roads, there is a covered fish pond and patio area.  Downstairs in the cottage, the living room features an open brick fireplace, open beamed ceiling, comfortable suite, colour television, video and radio. The breakfast kitchen has an open beamed ceiling with attractive pine units, electric cooker, microwave, fridge etc., and is fully equipped with all crockery, cutlery, glassware etc.
Off from the kitchen is a utility porch with laundry facilities, with a stable style split rear door leading out on to the garden.
To the right of the kitchen is the bathroom with instant electric shower, hand basin, toilet and electric heater.  To the left of the kitchen is an open plan staircase leading to the first floor.  Bedroom 1 has a double bed. Bedroom 2 has a guest style bed which can easily be transformed two provide two single or one double bed, and the room has pleasant views over the rear garden and beyond.
Whilst the cottage fronts direct onto the pavement, there is on-street parking available.  The cottage has an adequate supply of solid fuel, and there is additional electric heating available for moderate weather, or for those not wishing to bother with an open fire.
The cottage is also equipped with all bedding, towels, and other linen.  For garden use there is a barbecue and garden furniture housed in the garden shed, along with two adult bicycles for your use. (whilst we maintain the bikes to a very good standard, we cannot be responsible for any injury incurred during their use). There is reading material and information on local areas of interest, walks & cycle routes, as well as games etc., for cosy evenings by the fire.
At Lilac Cottage you can go out every day and see the sights (some of which are detailed overleaf), or just put your feet up and relax, it’s up to you.
