Description

La Tourablere is a modernised and completely renovated farm workers cottage situated in the rolling Normandy countryside of Le Mortainais. The cottage is set in peaceful farmland but within a very short drive of the towns of Mortain and Sourdeval. The beaches surrounding Mont St Michel are around 45 mins away by car.

The cottage is three storey with living room and kitchen on the ground floor. On the first floor is a hallway leading to the main bedroom and bathroom with shower and bath. The attic has two single beds and en suite bathroom with shower. All bedding and towels are provided.


Places of Interest

La Cascades.

The water falls of Mortain known as the Grande Cascade and the Petite Cascade provide visitors with a wealth of natural beauty and are a much visited local attraction. Spare some time and take the marked path around the falls and there fast flowing streams.

La Petite Chapel – Hill 314.

This town is the focal point of the German Counter Attack on August 6th 1944. The hill, known as Hill 314, overlooking Mortain was a strategic stronghold held by the 2nd Battalion of the 30th US Army Division. The hill was held for 6 day’s and 6 nights with many losses until eventually relieved.

A monument stands at the base of the Hill 314 and at it’s summit the Petite Chapel remains to this day. On a clear day you can see Mont St Michel in the distance.

Abbaye Blanche.

The "Abbaye-Blanche" was founded in 1112 by Adeline, sister of Saint Vital a former chaplain to count Robert of Mortain, half-brother of William the Conqueror

The source of legends and site of pilgrimages for over a thousand years, Mont St Michel is the next most popular tourist attraction in France to the Eiffel Tower. Allow a day to wander the cobble streets, enjoy a drink and meal and visit the magnificent Abbey with its breathtaking views across the bay. There are also many nearby inland restaurants, bars and shops.

The home of the famous Bayeux Tapestry created in the 11th Century and a unique historical tapestry providing a vivid pictorial history of the events of 1066. Also within the town is the art museum of Baron Gerard and the Memorial of the Battle of Normandy.

FOUGERES. Walk through the hillside gardens to the largest intact medieval castle in Europe

The seaside town of Granville is the entrance To the “Route la Baie” with the beaches of Saint Pair Sur Mer, Jullouville, Carrolles, Saint Jean-Le-Thomas and the pretty little villages of Genets, Vains / Saint-Leonard.
