Description

Begrum cottage is perfect for two people and can sleep 4, using the bed-settee in the spacious living room. There is a built-in wardrobe off the living room too. The living room has electric heating, plus a wood-burning stove, hi-fi, freeview tv, DVD player, vcr, a large, south-facing window and direct access to the conservatory. The kitchen is fully equipped, including fridge-freezer, combination oven, and hob. The bedroom has twin beds. There is also a double wardrobe and a dressing table & stool. The bathroom has a shower over the bath and a grab rail. You are welcome to bring a dog to Begrum. We ask that dogs are not allowed on beds or on any other furniture and are not left unattended in the cottage or elsewhere at Burnbrae. Adjacent to the cottages are fields in which you are welcome to walk with your dog. There are also farm tracks nearby which are suitable for dog-walking. There is an extra charge of £10 per dog.

At Burnbrae, in the heart of the Scottish Borders, we have three one-bedroom cottages which were created during 1999-2001 by conversion of a long stone barn. Each cottage is light and airy with plenty of space. From the dining area of the living room, there is direct, level access to a south-facing conservatory with views across the secluded garden, river and the Tweed valley to the Cheviot hills and the border between Scotland and England.  At Burnbrae, guests find tranquility, comfort, space and a refreshing absence of problems. The site is surrounded by agricultural land but is no longer a working farm. Our time and other resources are devoted to ensuring that you have an idyllic experience in the Scottish Borders. We live on the site and are pleased to help guests with information and other assistance.

Each cottage is generously equipped for 2-4 people for self catering. For those who require them, we can provide additional beds for each cottage. All of the rooms are on the same level and reached from the car park without any step up or down. Cars can approach close to the main entrance of each cottage for loading. There is a large, private car park adjacent to the cottages. We provide broadband access without charge. Each kitchen has a fridge/freezer, hob and an oven/grill/microwave. Each cottage has a heated drying cupboard. All linen – towels and bedding - is provided. All have colour tv, freeview, dvd player, hi-fi cd player/radio, alarm clock, and a hair dryer.

Each cottage has electrical heating throughout which is supplemented by a wood-burning stove in the living room. We will lay the fire and light it on request or at an arranged time so that there is a bright glow to welcome you on your arrival or on return from an outing. We provide a supply of firewood in the living room. The cottages are well insulated and can be maintained warm in the coldest weather without any extra charge for fuel or electricity.

Places of Interest

Burnbrae lies in the Scottish Borders, 5km north of the river Tweed and the picturesque town of Kelso with its splendid square and ancient abbey ruins. Sir Walter Scott attended school here. Even nearer are Floors Castle and Mellerstain, two stately homes with fine interiors. They are occupied by the Duke of Roxburgh and The Earl of Haddington respectively but you can visit these and other historic houses to see the interiors and the art collections they contain. Mellerstain is one of the great Adam houses of Scotland. The house was built in two stages - the two wings in 1725 by William Adam and the large central block between 1770-78 by his famous son. The outskirts of Edinburgh, St. Abbs Head on the east coast, fishing ports & beaches, the Cheviot hills and most of the Borders towns are within 40 minutes pleasant drive by car. During early summer, there are enormous colonies of nesting sea birds at St. Abbs Head.
